Why did you choose this particular line of work?

"I grew up in rural eastern Iowa and spent most of my childhood catching frogs and snakes and just exploring the wild places around my family’s home. Those experiences made me care greatly for our natural resources and eventually led me to pursue a career in conservation. Now, I want to provide similar outdoor adventures to the next generation."

What do you like most about your job?

"As adults we often don’t pay much attention to an ant crossing the pavement. A child can see that same ant and become completely enthralled, following it off the sidewalk and into an underground complex of tunnels. I like that as a naturalist I am constantly inspired by children to look at the world a little differently, and with never-ending curiosity."
