"We look forward to this event every year!"

"Last year, my kids literally cried because they didn’t want to leave. They were having so much fun!"

"This is certainly the biggest event of its kind around here."

The annual Outdoor Youth Jamboree is a completely free, volunteer-led, day long event designed to connect people of all ages to many of the great outdoor recreation activities Big Hollow Recreation Area has to offer. Held on a Saturday every year in early to mid-May, the event gives you the chance to paddle a canoe, shoot targets (BB gun, .22 rifle, shotgun, and archery), ride a boat on Big Hollow Lake, catch fish, learn about wildlife, search the cosmos through enormous telescopes, and much more! All activities are led by qualified instructors and no experience or equipment is necessary. Everything is provided.

The event also features prize giveaways, plenty of refreshments, and a free lunch.

Check our calendar for this year’s date and registration information.
Note: Due to the size of this event (it’s not uncommon to see ~1,000 attendees), we strongly encourage you to pre-register.

The Outdoor Youth Jamboree is a cooperative effort by the following organizations:

  • Des Moines County Conservation
  • Aldo Leopold Chapter of Pheasants Forever
  • Ducks Unlimited
  • Flint River Bowhunters Club
  • Delta Waterfowl
  • National Wild Turkey Federation
  • Mississippi Valley Callers Association

  • And many other volunteers
